در بریتانیای طبقاتی و از نظر مذهبی تقسیم‌شده در اوایل دهه ۱۹۲۰، دو دونده جوان مصمم برای المپیک ۱۹۲۴ پاریس تمرین می‌کنند. اریک لیدل، یک مسیحی معتقد که از مبلغان اسکاتلندی در چین متولد شده است، دویدن را بخشی از پرستش جلال خداوند می‌داند و از تمرین یا مسابقه در روز سبت خودداری می‌کند. هارولد آبراهامز بر یهودستیزی و تعصب طبقاتی غلبه می‌کند، اما در تلاش بی‌وقفه خود، معشوقه محبوبش را نادیده می‌گیرد.

Synopsis (English)

In the class-obsessed and religiously divided UK of the early 1920s, two determined young runners train for the 1924 Paris Olympics. Eric Liddell, a devout Christian born to Scottish missionaries in China, sees running as part of his worship of God's glory and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams overcomes anti-Semitism and class bias, but neglects his beloved sweetheart in his single-minded quest.
